1. My soul is sacrificed for a book that gained all my wishes
The Messenger brought it from the Beloved

١. نفسي فداءَ كتابٍ حاز كل منى
جاء الرسولُ به من عندِ محبوبِ

2. Bringing good news that the displeasure has turned to pleasure
And after distance, I was brought near through it

٢. مبشراً أن ذاك السُخط عاد رِضا
وبدلتُ منهُ من بُعدٍ بتقريبِ

3. I imagined it looking at me with its sights
And guiding me to the goodness contained within it

٣. حَسِبتُهُ ناظراً نحوي بناظِرِه
ومُهدياً لي ما في فيه من طيب

4. I folded it over from joy and unfolded it
Nearly wearing it out from my kissing and turning of its pages

٤. ظلِلتُ أطويهِ من وَجد وأنشرُهُ
وكاد يبليه تقبيلي وتقليبي

5. How many sweet kisses I planted on its title
And was cooled from the agony of burning torment

٥. كم قبلةً ليَ في عُنوانه عَذُبت
وبردَت بالتلظي حَرَّ تعذيب

6. It was as if when sadness departed my eternity
It was Joseph's shirt in the eyes of Jacob

٦. كأنه حين جَلّى الحزنَ عن خلَدي
قميصُ يوسف في أجفان يعقوب

7. If what was contained in it of promises was lies
It still cured - so what of an undeceitful promise?

٧. لو كان ما فيه من موعوده كذِبا
شَفى فكيف بوعد غير مكذوب

٨.
