1. O companion of life, goodness drips from you
Generosity and morals fragrant

2. Your sweet soul beloved to the soul
Upon it the years bestow glory

3. Perfection and goodness bare themselves in it
Shining wherever you look into the horizons

4. It is a world for righteous women adorned
With what satisfies and what is secretly sought

5. In its margins and its levels
Roses and shimmering dew are grown

6. I drank pleasure in my youth so I grew up
And from pleasure it has attachment

7. I flirted with life playfully so I found
My youth guarded from what angers

8. God protected it and hearts eager
For it, fear, and concern

9. Its only misstep was to return to glory
And youth has no power over adventure

10. God made from our blood the wishes
So its flood moved the river banks

11. The free young man from traces of free blood
So the steeds took flight

12. From the traces of purpose its extent is valued
For with purpose the lead rope is pulled

13. One who if he wishes to be as he wishes
Then between him and that is no bond

14. One who if he wishes to be jesting
As a companion singing so Iraq chants

15. He pushes the boulder around him while steadfast
Not reached by obstacles

16. O noble poet, my heart inclines
To you and passions are aroused

17. While there are no steps between us
But kinship is not undone

18. O brother of the soul, send me much rain from you
With no lessening

19. Your blessings flooded me while
My companions betrayed my passion

20. They went out safe by God's praise
In a visit devoid of hypocrisy

21. My heart bears them no ill will
A companion whose soul is filled with kindness is enough for me

22. O splendid poet, and the glory of poetry
Is of what echoes through the horizons

23. Have you seen a friend eaten by disease
And its burning consumes his bones

24. Not the cause of this sickness, but
His immense patience to hardship is a barrier

25. The sap dried up from his branch and so
The leaves around it withered and fell

26. The kindred of his heart though he
Once had in his time ardor

27. May God have mercy on his days
For if he returns then for our time I have a covenant

28. Today I have no movement as if
My powers are bound in their hiding place

And sunken eyes

31. And trembling and dissolution
We have no cunning for God in His knowledge

32. Knows well the minute affairs
I have hope in God's mercy for

33. It has expanded in life what cannot be borne
Healing, healing O Lord and pardon

34. And increase its power over what binds it
How can I reward you O companion when

35. I have no hand to repay the like of you
The ode you judge I do not know

36. If in repayment it is considered tasteful
So keep it as a memento, for if I die

37. Read between it the love with no palette
Or greet us so we may read in it
