1. Veils cannot cloak love of the beloved,
Save when indwelling things do quell the soul.

2. At but a glance the veil's lifted from the loved one-
Other-than-he is dust that to the winds is blown.

3. Who follows love cares not for fleeting things,
For all is gossamer, and to naught will roll.

4. Rend then the veils of being with resolve,
Verdant, or dusty, to thy might they bow.

5. Leave men whose creed is but caprice,
Long has their reasoning been dust, like bones decayed.

6. The devotee rules o’er his Lord’s domain and quests,
Unmarred by blessing and beguile of gift bestowed.

7. Follow the loyal and obedient prophets’ path,
Those founts of wisdom and sagacity.

8. They turned their hearts from strangers, by His order steeled,
And to His summons did with full hearts flow.

9. The saints pursued, the noble and elect,
Discerning in mind, untainted in creed.

10. He raised their nation up and perfected their affair,
Though gloom once reigned through night that hung like cowl.

11. He brought to life believers’ hearts with His light,
Which once obscured, from their midst did lift the veil.

12. Universal is the guidance He revealed, the sun He raised,
Its light till Judgement Day shall never fail.

13. Those of His house followed His path without relent,
A folk of probity, devotion's zeal.

14. With God's remembrance they were occupied, Tremendous His Perfection!
While hearts of unbelievers were but ashen grey.

15. A folk whose foremost guide was that Embodiment of virtue sought,
Beneath whose shade the pleaders find their goal.

16. He was the soul of existence, splendour of all truth,
That noble spirit pure of hue like snow.

17. Chosen kernel from the heart of Hashim's line,
Of whom sires were ennobled by his fame.

18. He was their light within the store of their beginnings,
Ere clay was kneaded, and the water flowed.

19. He came with flawless creed; by which
Were bent the uprighteous minds that once were bent.

20. And by his moon's arising we saw clear, despite the blind,
Evidence brilliant and serene of brow.

21. Though foes bore witness to his might, by awe compelled,
Merit lies only with attestors from one's foes.

22. He superseded creeds, prescribing one wherein
Reasons' wise ones did obedience avow.

23. Singling God out, he lauded Him; that Lofty One,
Who has no partner, peer, nor mate as thou.

24. Though the mind bears witness that beyond its ken
There lies a meaning robed in being's gown

25. Unite in sense the Essence of your Lord, wise,
For to liken Him, the Ugliest Blot!

26. Opinion is unsure of you; how can thoughts define?
Or what approach can grasp imagination now?

27. What thought has fathomed You, from any point or plane?
Seen, You're corporeal; veiled, hidden from view.

28. This emergence both apparent and occult,
Whereby the eloquent were plunged in doubt.

29. You hold within you treasuries of all such things,
Whose pages those reciters yet endow.

30. This being and not-being leaves sages perplexed,
Abashed where knowledge cannot pierce, they bow.

31. Transcendent He determines, present, absent too,
Beyond your sight that Lofty Entity.

32. Creation's secrets lead back to His order's realm,
Whereby things' motion does His decree allow.

33. The mystics' secret cure is their conviction sure,
While ignorance in truth's eye is the blight and bane.

34. Follow the secret coursing through Muhammad,
Those names ennobled by his presence fair.

35. Open the seekers’ eyes with ardour,
Where to his spirit's light they signal bow.

36. Leave those enviers to their misery,
No cure is there, my lads, that can heal their pain.

37. They vary with desires, for their misguidance,
Fickle as the chameleon does colours change.

38. stubborn hatred has trussed them up,
To bigotry's abyss as fools deranged.

39. They sneered at Holy Law, what ails their minds,
Deeming themselves the learned men so sage!

40. They raved, from their corrupted minds deducing,
Vain fabrications, minds that truth evade.

41. It's as though their minds were fire ablaze,
And in them, water, flames' rage to assuage.

42. State your absurdities and minds' inanities,
That we examine them you fools outraged.

43. The truth lights up from its words a light,
Radiant over horizons afar outstretched.

44. You erred headstrong; when the veil is lifted,
Its covering will clothe you, fools enmeshed.

45. You saw inception plainly possible,
And likewise rendering and inception.

46. A feat unveiled from One Eternal, Agent,
Inception, rendering His Actions matched.

47. O you! We see you comprehend your being's realm as stumped,
While your own place and state you cannot gauge.

48. Each part within you is confounded by your circumstances,
So spare us your pretensions and their weight!

49. Existence you witness, its forms you perceive,
By your eyes a blurred and sightless waste.

50. All time makes a ruin of your house entire,
Stripping you of every aspect and trait.

51. Like yourself your house's wall is ignorant, dumb,
Your words about God flounder in this strait.

52. You felt shame when censured by one who railed,
Yet censuring yourself you have no shame to date.

53. Unify and ponder perplexed, legitimately,
Thus prophets came, bewildered, in their wake.

54. We're confused but not confused; and in this bewilderment
Knowledge secretes the clarities that daybreak.

55. Hallowed, Sanctified, His Name recalled,
Besides Him, no earth exists, no heavenly sphere.

56. Resign all matters to him in full servanthood,
For His is mighty command and ordain.

57. In every state for devotees, a new beginning
With God, for affairs, is tutelage.

58. He is the Knower, and all knowledge falls short.
He the Almighty, while we are all poor.
