1. The riders never crossed the rugged earth
Toward the desert plains except we bid them farewell,
2. We bid them farewell with burning anguish
And in our longing we were far though near.
3. Thus are we, O Hudhaym, a people who,
Apart from those we love, from all the world hide.
4. How often we recalled our loved ones and found peace,
Recalled their turning from us and sorrowed,
5. Missed their faces and then died,
Found them fickle and recovered.
6. Severed from them, when we met again
We drank the water of life from their rain cloud.
7. We are a people, praise God, who inwardly
And openly from others' eyes withdraw.
