1. The gatherings of the people, do not abandon proper behavior in them
For they are watchful for subtle breaches

2. Do not grow weary of a clearer path they show you
And be a humble, abased servant rising on feet

Guard your heart, O you, in their presence

4. For we have seen their stature as wondrous
Many an ignorant came to them in lowliness accompanying him

5. Yet he returned with knowledge and virtues transformed

6. And how many with the arrogance of knowledge came to their gathering
Only to return crestfallen in thinking and dejected in opinion

7. The life of their secrets they hid from the rejecters
Twisting in the folds of their jaws was a burning flame

Pulpits of the unseen, their resolves built them

9. And how many a towering man was ruined by their resolve

10. And how many a poor man came to them sincere and infatuated
Such that the earthly dust became gold in their esteem

And how many a despot attacking their reputation

12. They repelled with their might, turning him into cinder

13. For God is their strong resolve - how much it accomplished
For God is their generous palm - how much it granted

14.
For God, how many a dominant one they returned vanquished

15. And how many a broken one through them his enemies overpowered

16. The people of the swords unsheathed in whose scabbards
The dripping blood of their cutting blades amassed

17.
Repelling enemies from their high stations

18. Whether the adversary was distant in lands or nearby

19. The deadly ones with pure secrets
And the ascetics and the night's veil they never lifted

20.
And the benefactors giving openly from their virtues

21. And the God-fearing hearts they nurtured in darkness

22. And the assiduous ones with relentless stinginess
And the writers with pens and whoever transcribed

23.
And the seekers of the Lord Most High's path
