1. Is this a medium, or one with dreams?
Of longing for her, I am devoid

2. And my eyes to see her ruins
Are ever flowing with bloody tears

3. Whenever the morning breeze would blow
A smiling cheek it carries from her

4. How can my heart not take my agony
When I'm a slave, from them far removed

5. The masters of the living, famous men
Whose renown the nations spread

6. They buried passion in our hearts
So it's in turmoil, always colliding

7. By them, though, a fair share was given
Among lovers, a most gracious share

8. They're the refuge of my heart, and for them
In my heart, of their love, a talisman

9. My heart's abode is the shrine of love for them
For them is power at dusk's fall

10. And over Al-Thurayya, feet
They taught me the elegy and love-sickness for them

11. So I quenched passionate love, text from them
A fate that marks me as their slave

12. And from misfortunes the shares run
Our destiny was sealed when

13. The tablet was inscribed, the pen wrote
Passionate love spilled my tears, confused

14. Since their sign appeared, and the banner
How can I not love people of whom

15. In scripture secure, love of them was made
Among them is Sheikh Bo Tayha of Wasit

16. Unique among men, the most glorious flag
The one circled by the lofty of state

17. And from him the mysteries to them flowed
Master of the foremost folk, their greatest

18. And the youth of their elders, their Sheikh
He walked the path of God, singular

19. Ambitions fell short of his ascent
If his tigers appeared openly

20. Darkness would be lit up in his light
If he called a dead man, he'd hurry compliant

21. Or sang to the hills and they'd crumble
The unique one, grandson of Mustafa

22. Succor of the greatest men, the utmost
Al-Rifa’i, whose ambition

23. Was the heights of glory, a ladder
The poles took shelter in his cloak

24. Arabs and non-Arabs, all together
Where are my words to the meaning of his pride?

25. Words about him, construed, will cohere
Without mention of him, many a mention

26. Would not be sweet, however pleasing the words
Wondrous, astoundingly wondrous, that

27. I am dead, yet by my words decree
Have you heard a decree from one dead,

28. Annihilated under layers of love?
Give me a draft of the wine of those

29. Whose spirits the expanse near them settled
And wondrously when I call them I see

30. Their persons within me, as though I am them
Al-Rawabi and Rabee’a al-Munhana

31. And Riyyad, their nature is his
If I complain, it's about them my plaint

32. And if I weep, my tears are theirs
My smile is when I see their faces

33. And my gloom if they do not smile
Their covenant is my creed, their closeness my soul

34. And my passion for them is my bond
In them my longings never cease

35. How, when longing comes from them?
They draw near or distance or go far

36. But in sum I am their slave
God established my loyalty to them

37. And my yearning—its full moon has not waned
And upon them at all times, forever

38. The fragrance of basil, its scent like theirs
It expresses from me the tales of passion

39. Quenching aridity, their spaciousness
It shows me ever at their door

40. Joined to sadness, never to be sundered
