1. Time shepherded and saw wonders,
And shot an arrow hitting the hidden.

2. A young man passed by, hiding his mace,
Turning away from all existence.

3. Asceticism endowed him with true wisdom,
And wisdom gifted him talents.

4. He protected people in their lofty states,
And saw none but the All-Watchful as companion.

5. He did not deny the truthful out of bitterness,
Nor believe the liar in his soul.

6. He blocked out ephemeral things, forgetting
Their existence, their ephemerality forgetting.

7. He roamed the land walking,
Contemplating, even if traveling angrily.

8. He erased universes from his heart,
Estranging atoms and kin.

9. He wore no crown, selecting for himself
Only guidance and its people as bodyguards.

10. He goes to people gently forgiving,
And holds himself strictly accountable.

11. He upholds God's limits and sees
Neither loyalists nor foreigners.

12. He was not tempted by the frivolity of the arrogant,
When they marched and sent their prides after them.

13. Nor the palaces they erected, pretending
To rival the stars in loftiness.

14. Nor the sleek steeds around them,
Arranged in ranks of processions.

15. Nor the melodious singers they kept,
Like gazelles of a meadow clapping cymbals.

16. Nor the varieties of the two worlds submitting,
Seeking through their riches, high stations.

17. All is vanishing, and permanence is for He
Who established them in degrees, on degrees.

18. See, my son, the string of one who came
In a robe of ephemerality, bound for ephemerality.

19. The deaf hordes did not benefit, though many
A horde had marched before them.

20. Nor did riches, though many a fool amassed them,
Only for time to rob them away.

21. None but God is hoped in forever,
When nights thicken with woes.

22. So make God's Messenger a portal
To God, present and absent.

23. And uphold the rights of all prophets,
And saints, traversing the methods.

24. Take the Hashimi's law as your creed,
And spread through your fold his virtues.

25. Make loving him, loving his God,
And his company an obligation upon you.

26. Act by the approach of the son of Rifa'ah,
Who represented his grandfather the Prophet.

27. Say my words and follow my way,
You will attain your wishes and objects.
