1. The night of the lover grows long with wakefulness
In love of the one whose love leaves its mark

2. The mark of love is clear on the hearts of lovers
Today there is sorrow and the darkness keeps us awake

3. It is the way of tenderness that the moon appears
Veiled in its shroud over the sublime scene

4. It folds and unfolds the meanings of passion
With stories that affirm what we have heard

5. Staying awake is an obligation for lovers
Whoever is absent misses what is present

6. Gifts rain down from the heavens of contentment
And pearls are strung for loved ones in the night

7. The sincere ones have eyelids that quiver
Delicate toward Him—the sincere ones risk all

8. A risk, but if you understood His secret
The risk of bliss when fate is kind

9. On their brows is written plainly
Traces whose meaning holds hidden gems

10. Their hearts were shaken by their passion
At night, and afterwards the fruit dropped for them

11. Stay awake, my son, halfway through the night
For whoever sleeps, shirking love, betrays

12. The companions marched on while hunger pinched their stomachs
And love kept their eyes sleepless in apprehension

13. They attained their goal and triumphed
And thus the report of success was verified

14. Stay awake in yearning—the darkness of night
Holds for its wakeful one a gaze from the Master

15. When you stay awake through the night
Awaken at dawn to the state of the Comforter’s spirit

16. Ask your God by the Chosen Prophet
The secret of existence, the soul of humankind

17. No person asked the Merciful in sin
Hoping for approval, but He forgave

18. Ask Him by His elect descendants
And by his lion warriors, those noble gems

19. And by every saint who has devoted himself to vigil
By the Pole Shaykh al-'Urayji, praised in conduct

20. Say "O our Lord, O our Lord, O our Lord
O You who mend the broken when he calls out"

21. For the sake of Your servant of noble character
The truthful, resolute, and righteous prophet

22. For the master, the truthful morning wakeful one
And the discerning Faruq, our master Umar

23. And the Caliph Uthman, the selected scholar
And the champion, hero of the greatest battles

24. And the foremost, the flowers of his children
And for every servant whose love of You kept him awake

25. Forgive us by Your grace, O Knower of our states
And tend to us in every situation that befalls

26. With protection, O Lord, if fate should strike
And look after us with eternal care

27. For we are all impoverished and in need of provision
Have mercy in Your generosity on our lowliness

28. O Lord, if we have fallen into pits
Conceal Your servants whose surface is humbled

29. And tend with care to the secrets of the unseen
For those who are manifest and those hidden

30. I am a stranger in my tattered patchwork cloak
Old age whispers to me as elderliness approaches

31. Yearning for Your secrets has obsessed me
And for every servant performing pilgrimage and visitation

32. O Knower of secrets, O Lord on high
The heart is aflame and our tears rain down

33. Sorrows have kindled a fire in us—extinguish its blaze
And tend with kindness the darkness of others

34. And conclude this prayer which our hearts
Have poured out to You from the folds of a secret passion

35. With blessings upon the one whom You made
Among the unseen the lamp of forms

36. The Chosen One from the pure line of Hashim
Who came with the ordered verses of the Qur'an

37. No devoted guide of any faction
Has remembered with truth and given thanks
