1. What eye has seen my love and then slept,
And from the whole universe withdrawn and kept aloof?

2. What chaste and passionate one has loved him
And not become intoxicated by his wine of love?

3. It is his passions that have disturbed me
And remained with my heart and endured.

4. The maidens denied my condition madly
And blamed me in ignorance and reproached me.

5. Yet thanks to my Lord, myself I do restrain
From all existence, in love silent and abstain.

6. I have not ceased to attend his gates a single wink
Even if the resurrection itself should come.
