1. What wine in cups passed round
And draughts their spirits drowned

4. They spent their love immodestly
For open love's the drunkard's way

5. More fervent grown their yearning sighs
In melting mood they weeping rise

6. A drunk that makes the coward brave
And gladdens sorrow with its wave

7. Learned men made lawful by decree
Who world and faith aside did free

8. And banned its opposite, but allowed
For lovers death by it avowed

9. Its light can pierce through darkest gloom
When morning gleams around its foam

10. You cupbearers, replenish cheer
For gentle love grants all things clear

11. If crazed by wine you see us now
Forgive your drunkenness allow

12. We've strung love's gems in verse for you
The truest words, kind sirs, and true

13. By whom love's longing was decreed
My lids are wounded and they bleed

With burning sighs, my tears embossed
