1. Whoever is a servant of a people should be loyal to them
The condition of true servitude is courtesy and refinement

3. How strange are those who falsely claim passion
They have transgressed and debased the living with lies

4. Sacrificing one's heart is a condition of love
So where are you in gallantry and vigor?

5. Love seizes its people and protects them
From every sinful, deviant, and immoral person

6. There is no partnership in love, one alone forever
Beyond any associations, family ties or ancestry

7. Praise be to God, my heart is a treasure
Where my secret love is protected, absent yet present

8. Thousands have stripped themselves of my knowledge, deeds,
Discernment, taste, etiquette, manners and breeding

9. And the spiritual ascension of my soul
And the merits of my people and pedigree

10. I have not spoken to my heart unless I recall
The meanings of my love, beyond joy and commotion

11. The Divine Throne, the earthly throne, and the orbits bear witness
That I have severed all connections save my cause

12. I live and die in rapture, in exaltation
Whether distant from it or drawn nearer

13. Wondrous that my heart melted for it
Yet I never called "O my heart!" in passion

14. I have become the sultan of the lover’s allegiance
When I come forth they bow down submissively

15. From Hashim I inherited a noble essence
The water is my father's water, the well my father's well

16. And the sanctity of the verdant breeze comes
From the meadow between Shih and Kuthub

17. A meadow whose cups intoxicated us
With delicious wine of the sweetest draught

18. An intense clamor rose from the ambush of passion
For the lovers, at the impregnable stronghold

19. Gleaming lightning bolts from their presence
Brought good fortune to the two sides within the domes

20. Every subtle secret from their company
Held in breasts, not supported by books

21. The tablet of their wisdom breaks forth
With amazing wisdom that astounds the mind

22. Never in my existence, by their might,
Did I turn to consider my coming and going

23. How often their soul-refreshing breath
Brought life to my life, by the manners of an amiable companion!

24. How often I asked the wind about news of their kingdom,
I would sacrifice for the south winds of the sanctuary and my father

25. How often I knocked at the door while the travelers slept
With my heart wavering between presence and absence

26. I incited the crowing roosters about resolves
While the people were halfway between envoys and commissioners

27. Those pacts shone, O my heart, so rejoice
In your love, safe from exhaustion and fatigue

28. The beloved was generous to us after an absence
And we felt secure from the murder and terror of fear

29. Praise be to God! An assembly without separation
