1. Glory is unattainable by one who lacks diligence in seeking it,
No kinsman or neighbor is dearer to me than my father,

2. If my actions lead me downhill,
My father's nobility will never benefit me one day,

3. The young man who strives diligently with his ambition,
Seeking the heights, never lazy or faltering,

4. Whose nature is not that of weakness, his requests will succeed,
Even if he has lineage, wealth, and repute,

5. And whoever girds himself with the belt of resolve
And affirms the will, he will gain the top places,

6. And the ideal person has mention and the best of people is the most clement,
And the most dignified at times of distress.
