1. O my friend, events have made you unrecognizable
Your eyes have become like ruins, accusing

2. As if your image was the secret they possess
To me your appearance is my studying, demolishing patience

3. As if the blow of loss remains
Between meadows lying flat

4. Or a sadness remains in the heart darkened
For an unattained need, the nations forgot

5. Behold, a cloud of tears fogs
Thundering with lightning smiling

6. Why doesn't its rain cloud find generosity lasting
All the suspended tears are blood

7. If only the hills responded to the one who calls them
In loving them wellbeing, in hating them ruin

8. Or if they spoke with the tongue of the condition
The condition may understand what words do not

9. Do you not see my white hair telling you
That the limit I have reached has been breached

10. White hair warns while hopes promise
And man is tempted while days pass

11. Why do I see the rule of deeds fallen
And hear time's sayings all wisdom

12. What is with me that I see merit slighted
When flaws were honored after generosity vanished

13. I roamed this world and its adornments
My eyes found a house with no pillars

14. Like a corpse worm-eaten, and the worms
Came from it, from it you see sustenance and taste

15. It's the same to me if they act righteously or sinfully
For no pen flows upon the likes of them

16. Do not envy them if they strive seriously
For striving benefits, but has no invincibility

17. They are not, even if they live well, beyond blessings
And maybe blessings live among their blessings

18. The wealthy have riches, the poor have deprivation
Are those who found like those who lacked?

19. I was created among them and also mixed with them
So among them there is no rich or poor

20. I resided among them like a lion among sheep
I saw a lion who from his kind had sheep

21. Even if from the one I suffered from
In his eyes I am mute, in his ears deaf

22. Distinguishing me from the people of this world
The least thing in me is not glory and bone

23. With what legacy can anyone be compared to me
With what honor do nations narrate me

24. Do I resemble a prickly unwanted plant attached to me
Or like an ugly forest donkey

25. So an old man, but after sitting down
While that was generous, his kingdom usurped

26. Even if pens serve me
Likewise my hand serves the cutting sword

27. I witness fright comfortably so I reveal it
When it regresses from its current

28. The strike is ferocious, the stab orderly
The tears reckless, the might seized

29. The air made stagnant by their stench
The horizon a carpet from their blood shedding

30. The white and the brown are red under their dust
Death rules and the heroes dispute

31. The fairest distribution in my and their war
From them spoils to us, from us burdens to them

32. As for eloquence, ask the expert of it about me
I am the tongue, ancient, and time is the mouth

33. None but me knows, teaching a science
To its people, I am that learned teacher

34. The conduit of the sciences of truth was idle
Until the Prophet dug and learned them

35. We destroy their souls with fright we hurl
At them, and their bodies with spears mesh

36. The fertility of this age for my determination died out
And I regretted it wept for it

37. If I willed the "Be" I desired with would exist
No fear silenced me, but dignity obligated modesty

38. And if I found the rising of the sun accommodating
The foot of my enemy would be eclipsed

39. If other than my tears wept beneath it
And clouds did not bar my path to it

40. The white blades were edges for completing
As the serrated edge of the sword and judgment occupied

41. And thought no Drawing of the Sword but poetry
And that horses in their birth have fetlocks

42. I raided the expanses of the earth straightening them
So the lion keeps away from pasture in which are sheep

43. But it is an area the winter clothed
So every yielder yielded, head bowed
