1. O you who blame me with malice unfounded,
Why do you act in this way, with envy abounding?

2. Why do you shun me, gathering shadows around me,
Giving reproach whence comes this grievance astounding?

3. Is it to make me love you more dearly,
Or to fill my heart with sorrow so blinding?

4. Whatever your love for me may hold,
God will increase it, all faults blotting.

5. Or are you a foe, spreading rumors and lies,
A slanderer sowing discord unheeding?

6. Breaking a pact though no betrayal was mine,
Believing the tales that set hearts bleeding.

7. They claim I betray you for someone else,
Though loyal I stay, their words unheeding.

8. So fear God in secrecy, for I keep
Secrecy's bond, this truth conceding.

9. One held dear is not fed by me,
While detractors are shunned, their nonsense unneeded.

10. Though you judge me unjustly, still I acquiesce,
Disdain the vile words of those misdeeding.
