1. Laila sent me a secret message blaming me,
And claiming I'm fickle and hasty.

2. She says, "You broke your promise to us,
By God I did not break it willingly."

3. I said worried to the messenger who came,
"Her threats spell trouble for you, beware!"

4. "When you see her, greet her peacefully and say:
'Laila, cease your tyranny and walk the straight path.'"

5. "You blame me, Laila, for a sin you committed.
But I don't count your sins against you."

6. "Did I fall sick those nights we were apart,
Only for you Laila, to increase my suffering?"

7. "You ignore what happened as if I faced,
A solid rock that gave me nothing but grief."

8. "Don't think I stayed away willingly,
When my soul yearned to be with you."

9. "Nor does my heart find solace in life without you,
I have never loved any but you."

10. "Know that I yearn for you more intensely,
And remain truer than others when we're apart."

11. "Tomorrow many will cry for us,
And the distance between us will grow."

12. "If you reject me, I'll never know happiness,
Nor find joy or bliss."

13. "If you wish, I'll abstain from all women but you,
And if you wish, I'll not eat fruit or cold food."

14. "If you wish, we'll return to you, and not stop,
At Mecca, until we sit with you in Nejd."
