1. O you whose anguished heart is burdened with grief
And raves deliriously with ailing gaze,
١. يا مَن لِقَلبٍ مُتَيَّمٍ كَلِفٍ
يَهذي بِخَودٍ مَريضَةِ النَظَرِ
2. She walks gently like honey dripping from the tree,
We neither coveted her, nor did she expect us,
٢. تَمشي الهُوَينا إِذا مَشَت فُضُلاً
وَهيَ كَمِثلِ العُسلوجِ في الشَجَرِ
3. Until we met by chance one night.
My eyes grew confused as I looked at her,
٣. ما إِن طَمِعنا بِها وَلا طَمِعَت
حَتّى اِلتَقَينا لَيلاً عَلى قَدَرِ
4. Until I saw my vision had diminished,
One night I saw her and forgot her,
٤. ما زالَ طَرفي يَحارُ إِذ نَظَرَت
حَتّى رَأَيتُ النُقصانَ في بَصَري
5. Walking lightly between staying and leaving.
White, beautiful, tender buds she walked gently like cows,
٥. أَبصَرتُها لَيلَةً وَنِسوَتِها
يَمشينَ بَينَ المَقامِ وَالحَجَرِ
6. Endowed with beauty and grace together,
And endowed with messengers of coyness and vigilance,
٦. بيضاً حِساناً خَرائِداً قُطُفاً
يَمشينَ هَوناً كَمِشيَةِ البَقَرِ
7. They listen to her when she speaks,
To prefer her over all mankind,
٧. قَد فُزنَ بِالحُسنِ وَالجَمالِ مَعاً
وَفُزنَ رِسلاً بِالدَلِّ وَالخَفَرِ
8. She said to a girlfriend confiding in her,
“You will spoil pilgrimage all your life.”
٨. يُنصِتنَ يَوماً لَها إِذا نَطَقَت
كَيما يُفَضِّلنَها عَلى البَشَرِ
9. “Get up and confront him so he may see us,
Then wink at him, O sister, in vigilance.”
٩. قالَت لِتِربٍ لَها تُحَدِّثُها
لَتُفسِدِنَّ الطَوافَ في عُمَرِ
10. She said, “I have winked at him but he refused,
Then I walked briskly following you.”
١٠. قومي تَصَدَّي لَهُ لِيُبصِرَنا
ثُمَّ اِغمُزيهِ يا أُختُ في خَفَرِ
11. Whoever is satiated with her saliva after sleep,
Is satiated with musk and cool waist.
١١. قالَت لَها قَد غَمَزتُهُ فَأَبى
ثُمَّ اِسبَطَرَّت تَسعى عَلى أَثَري
12. She is a bashful, lovely, difficult maiden,
At the prime of her beauty.
١٢. مَن يُسقَ بَعدَ المَنامِ ريقَتَها
يُسقَ بِمِسكٍ وَبارِدٍ خَصِرِ
١٣. حَوراءُ مَمكورَةٌ مُحَبَّبَةٌ
عَسراءُ لِلشَكلِ عِندَ مُجتَمَرِ
