1. I spent the night awake, burdened with cares
For being far from the abode of comforts

2. So my blamer fell short of blaming me
And my sickness made my healer sick

3. I die of grief for her estrangement
Yet being with her gladdens my misfortune

4. So evil is the reward of the beloved
When she rewards the son of the paternal uncle

5. And the day she departed, she shed
Tears while holding back her sobs

6. The next morning she slipped away
Hastily, in the darkness of night

7. And she said to a girl with her
A gazelle-like beauty:

8. "Is it him, O sister, by Allah
Who did not care for my name?

9. And did not reciprocate my love
But pretended while he did not feel

10. The girl replied, reversing her words:
"Yes, he hides it from knowledge"

11. So I came and said: "Morning rain
Does not fall from a barren cloud.

12. And I have sinned a sin, so remedy
With Allah from my injustice."

13. She said "No." I said "Why then
Did you trouble me without crime?

14. If I admit to the sin,
It is of a love that filled my body

15. You have declined convention and the obtainer
Intentionally, not one of kinship."
