Generated by a garden overlooking and well-arranged

3. To inform me, are the traces of my love still as I knew them
There when the days would give and be fair

4. So I gained nothing from that (love) but sorrow
Over it, as tears began to flow and pour down

5. My residence in Fustat is dignity, yet
My heart's place in it is the most blissful and lofty

6. I spent there the prime of my youth refusing
Maidens, and did not care for a reproaching companion,

7. And family, and brothers, and good news, and luck
And safety, and a beloved, and status, and a helper

8. I left behind those lands out of necessity
And against my will, without them, remaining behind
