1. The dearest of mankind is he who benefits the content,
Though he dies of grief and sorrow's lament.
١. أَعزُّ الوَرَى من أفاد القُنوعا
ولو مات للضُّرِّ هَزْلا وجوعا
2. For disgrace lies only in a youth's pursuit
Of dreams that lead him to submission and silent assent.
٢. وما الذلُّ إلا ركوبُ الفتى
مطامعَ تَجْنِى عليه الخضوعا
3. At the door of one with authority, his promise
Is but false hopes that he has power and strength to present.
٣. على بابِ ذي حِجْبةٍ وَعْدُه
غرورٌ على كونه مستطيعا
