1. A crescent in a sheath amidst the dunes
Its glance ensnares hearts with subtle snares

2. I spare no effort pardoning mortal sins
And gently smile at errors and white lies

3. I yearn to sip its wine-hued lips’ pure draughts
And make its bow-like waist myystick guide

4. When midst the cleavage of its robes I spy
The sunburst of its cheeks’ dawn-tinted dyes

5. With hopes of union I acquiescence find
To temporal parting, being satisfied

6. As Egypt’s tribes found refuge and relief
Through her Shahanshah from war’s plague and strife

7. That king whose auspices make time befriend
The hapless bard whom fates did not provide
