1. I wondered at my thanks, how with my effort
It hopes to repay the virtues that al-Husayn bestows.
١. عجبتُ لشُكرِي كيف يرجو بجهدِه
مُكافاةَ ما يُولى الحسينُ من الفَضْلِ
2. Yet he and I are like the earth that tried
To repay the rain that the sky bestows.
٢. وإني وإياه لَكالأرضِ حاولتْ
مجازاةَ ما تُولى السماءُ من الوَبْل
