1. They turned away, and grief destroyed my heart over them,
And I became without a heart, as though it was its heart.
١. تَوَلَّوا فَأَفْنَى الهمُّ قلبي عليهمُ
وصِرْتُ بلا قلبٍ كأنىَ قَلْبُهُ
2. And in addition to nearly perishing from pining,
Sorrow said to grief, “Woe to you, enough!”
٢. وزادَ إلى أنْ كدتُ أَفْنَى من الضَّنى
وقال الأسى للهمِّ وَيْلَك حَسْبُه
3. And the dawn of old age frightened away the night of my old age,
Thus is my habit in the dawn with those I love.
٣. ونَّفر صبحُ الشيبِ ليلَ شَيبتي
كذا عادتي في الصُّبِح معْ من أحبه
