1. The lightning of passion set my inner self aflame
So my eyelids created clouds from their moisture

2. O you who descend into my heart, your abode is pleasant
O kindlers of passion, you have revived an Arab

3. You rained upon the dunes and made their mantles quiver
And made the branches of the sand dunes fresh and sweet

4. I wondered how you settled within me out of your love
A fluttering heart, restless with longing

5. And took pity on an eye that, whenever it slept
Cast its tears upon subsistence that had been plundered

6. Every day I call out to the image of your ruins
O ruins of Layla, you have stirred passion in me

7. No - may God seize my loved ones for what they have done
Of aloofness, and not my heart for what it has earned

8. Give back sleep to my eyes, for I have lost it over you
So that it will lead me to seeing you in my dreams

9. When I remembered the kissed pearl
I let my tears flow over a life that had vanished

10. Indeed, my firm resolve has desisted from reaching you
When I heard news and tidings of you

11. Your beauty avoided the eye of your lover for a while
So what harm if the beloved visits, even from afar?

12. You built, so it's no wonder should the lover visit even if
You visited, my life would gain wonder from you

13. What is left for the stranger who avoided
The loved ones, but to be master of the distances?

14. Cave of sinners, aid of those seeking aid
Muhammad, the Chosen One, highest of mankind in lineage

15. The one whom God adorned with the brilliance of his splendor
A full moon, and sent down in his traits scriptures

16. And the trees inclined to him willingly
So the loveliest of his features shone

17. How many a legion did his palm lead, and how many
A liver did it bring joy, when it relieved anguish?

18. With him God guided peoples whom He ennobled
A religion which through him humbled idols into ruins

19. A people, when they remember him, zeal overcomes them
And when they call upon the skeptics, they rejoice in hope

20. Their determination is rendered useless by the winds of victory
As if they were a pasturage in the backs of horses

21. They know no lair when they attack as lions
Save the heights and the slender Indian swords

22. What excellent heights amidst the glittering blades!
How much have they attained in the palms of their hands of slim swords!

23. And from battlefields whose positions they made licit
As if they had gathered their dispersed blows

24. They were named after the best of creations named by it
They attained guidance, piety, merit, and proper behavior

25. The palace of Chosroes collapsed on the day of his birth
And the light dimmed from its blazing fires

26. And the jinn and soothsayers came warning
When they saw the omens of doom and war

27. They said, “We have found the sky is now filled
With guardians over all its horizons and meteors”

28. “That is nothing but due to a decree of fate
So we have naught to do with you, to know the cause”

29. So when the soothsayers stood upon their pulpits
And addressed their nations in sermons, they said:

30. “God has brought forth His treasure
He is the prophet known previously as the Awaited One”

31. “Whoever follows him is safe from every misfortune
And whoever opposes him will meet disgrace and perdition”

32. “O masters, the crown has now risen up
Beyond the messengers, the angels, and the veils”

33. “That is none but the Chosen One, who by seeing his Lord
Became self-sufficient, gaining the request and the nobility”

34. “I hope for his mighty intercession if I appear
Angry at my loved ones on the Day I unleash My wrath”

35. “O Lord, Your servant seeks forgiveness from You
So give him from Your abounding pardon what he seeks”

36. “O God, bless the Guide, his family
And his companions, the masters of nobility”

37. The darkness of night departed from the veil of dawn
And the sweet-smelling branches blew the breeze of morn
