1. If the tears of longing eyes were oceans wide
Then time would be a garden, and life a bride

2. Each eye deserves bloody tears to pour
Each heart profound sorrows and wounds untold

3. The radiant morn is veiled, the sun concealed
The dawn now sets, its promise unrevealed

4. My beloved left, and made my drink despair
In my heart a raging fire, its fuel my care

5. If only he’d fulfilled the promise of our love
My eyes would see a sign, a message from above

6. Need I speak of the fire in my breast?
Its burning consumes me, allows no rest

7. If my grief filled the world, still none would care
About my sorrow, though sorrow everywhere

8. Cups of tears passed round in the holy fast
My daughter sipped, her beauty did not last

9. The blooms faded in her garden bower
Wilted and died no longer in flower

10. In childhood she wore garments of disease
Drank the bitter draught of death with unease

11. At dawn the doctor came, claimed she’d be well
Yet doctors and their cures under false spell

12. He prescribed his treatments, said she would thrive
Free of all illness, fully alive

13. To grief I said “Grant my recovery, make haste
You claim to be skilled, so cure my bitter taste”

14. And “Spare my youth, my mother now distraught
The world torments her, stirs her anxious thought”

15. “Take pity on my eyes, their comfort gone
In their still pools only sadness has shone”

16. Seeing the doctor’s despair and his defeat
She said, as tears flooded, an endless stream:

17. “Mother, the doctor’s efforts are all in vain
Of hoped-for life I find no sign remain”

18. “If only the famed healer of Yamamah came here
My eyes and spirit to mend, dispel my fear”

19. “Oh comfort my soul! Let it slip its tether
Soon, so soon, it will take to wings and feather”

20. “Mother, no meeting remains, tomorrow’s light
Will reveal my funeral, a simple sight”

21. “This toil will end in the grave, the place
Where crowds will gather when I’m laid to rest”

22. “Tell the Grave to treat gently your daughter
Who comes to him a bride sent by fate’s order”

23. “And when shut in that narrow bed beside me
Know that the spirit you knew is confined with me”

24. “Mother, you wished for us such different fates
Now sorrow divides us, our lot is weights”

25. “Return to the barren sands, the windswept plain
Where only memory of me will remain”

26. “Keep my bridal dress, recall happier hours
When it shone with the promise of coming bowers”

27. “After this, dress in black, let the writ be done”
“The grave is now your daughter’s garden bower

28. Where flowers will bloom when you stand and glower”
“Do not forget me, by right of your care

29. Visit my grave, so the buried know you were there”
I comforted her though grief sealed my tongue

30. “He is merciful, your Lord, and most forgiving”
“My daughter, agony of my soul

31. The sweetness of your life is fled, your brightness dulled”
“I won’t tell your mother, whom you consumed with pain

32. With grief and endless sighing, your loss her bane”
I swear by the hateful eyes, my burning desire

33. Since I lost your light, no smile, only fire
And by my kisses that drew the blood from your lip

34. That exuded such sweetness, anointed my sip
By God! I find no joy in reciting Quran

35. Or birds singing where once we heard their voice, pleasant
No, I'll never forget the sigh of my pain

36. Though you are lost to the earth and lie buried, unclaimed
I'm used to such sorrow that if it fled from me

37. I would grieve the loss of my mournful guarantee
Once I'd not bear even a moment apart

38. But now endless separation - how to mend my heart?
I'll weep for you until in Heaven we meet

39. In eternal gardens of beauty replete
If asked, “Who is Aisha?” I’ll say this alone:

40. My life and patience are nothing, my love overthrown
Lost is the beauty concealed by the veil

41. Though her face was perfection, luminescent and pale
My heart, my eyes, my tongue, my Lord and Creator

42. Are pleased and weep in thanks, seeing His favour
In the gardens of gladness with those satisfied

43. Not grand halls and castles are my joy and pride
I heard the truth spoken: “My servants, come nigh

44. To the home of peace, your striving is recognized"
To the life of the blessed, no worldly snares

45. You have delight, so may my headstone proclaim
Your oneness, my wedding, maids of heaven my acclaim
