1. I have lost passion and lacked intimacy
And the two new ones have worn me out
١. فَقَدْتُ الْهَوى وَعَدِمْتُ الْوَدُودَا
وَأَبْلَى الْجَدِيدَان مَنِّي الْجَدِيدَا
2. I used to obey passion for ages
And flee far with amusement
٢. وَقَدْ كُنْتُ دَهْراً أَطِيعُ الْهَوى
وَأَجْرِي مَعَ اللَّهْوِ شَأْواً بَعِيداً
3. So I deprived my cup of pleasure
And denied all union
٣. فَحَرَّمْتُ كَأْسِي عَلَى لَذَّتِي
وَأَزْمَعْتُ كُلَّ وِصَالٍ صُدُودَا
4. After the Imam of guidance do I seek
Solace and fill my eyes with tears?
٤. أَبَعْدَ إمامِ الْهُدى أَبْتَغِي
سُلُوّاً وَأَمْلأُ طَرْفِي هُجُودَا
5. The enemies killed him suddenly
And did not meet a strong servant
٥. وقَدْ قَتَلَتْهُ الْعِدا غرَّةً
وَما صادَفَتْ مِنْهُ عَبَداً عَتِيداً
6. As if he had never been in an army
Confusing the foe and mobilizing troops
٦. كأَنْ لَمْ يَكُنْ قَطُّ فِي جَحْفَلٍ
يُحِيرُ الرَّدَى وَيَجُدُّ الْجُنُودَا
7. It saddens me and I am humbled by him
For he sees me as an obedient prisoner
٧. يَعِزُّ عَلَيْهِ وَأَنِي بِهِ
يَرانِي لِفَضْلِي أَسِيراً فَرِيدَا
8. The anguishes of love do handle me
And I account without the loss of the lost one
٨. تُباشِرُنِي ضَيِّقاتِ الْحُبُو
سِ وَأَحْسَبُ مِنْ غَيْرِ فَقْدِ فَقِيدَا
9. By him I owned time
I gladdened the friend and provoked the envious
٩. وَكُنْتُ بِهِ مَالِكاً للزَّمانِ
أَسُرُّ الصَّدِيقَ وَأُشْجِي الْحَسُودَا
10. So I laid my cheek for the enemies' tread
And they laid my family prone out of my sake
١٠. فَأَفْرَشْتُ خَدِّي لِوَطْءِ الْعِدَا
وَأَفْرَشَ أَهْلِي لأَجْلِي خُدُودَا
11. Missing him introduced me to disasters
And his loss made the firm weak
١١. وَعَرَّفَنِي فَقْدُهُ النَّائِباتِ
وذَلَّلَ مِنِّيَ صَعْباً جَلِيدَا
12. If only we rode to join him
And he attained immortality with us
١٢. فَيا لَيْتَ رَكْباً إِليْنَا نَعَوْهُ
نَعَوْنَا إِلَيْهِ وَنالَ الْخُلُودَا
