1. A night with a moon so bright, it's as if lamps illuminate its brightness
I steered my desire, keeping moderation in mind
١. وَلَيْلٍ كَأَنَّ الدُّجْنَ يَجْرِي بِبَدْرِهِ
عَدَلْتُ بِهِ لَهْوِي بِمْعتَدِلٍ غَضِّ
2. And a heavily cloaked one whose servants draped it over her
So she deceived me with my remorse and questions prone to negation
٢. وَمَشْمُولَةٍ دَسَّتْ خَوادِمُها بِها
فأَغْرَتْ بِتَوْبَاتِي وَسائلِ لِلنَّقْضِ
3. A gazelle within my soul, a definite matter
And sadness, the flow of tyranny in expansion and grip
٣. ظباءٌ لَها في النَّفْس أَمْرٌ مُحَكَّمٌ
وَغَمٌّ جِريُّ الْجَوْرِ في الْبِسْط وَالْقَبْضِ
