1. From the foothills of Lebanon, O breeze, or from the tail of Lebanon
You have stirred my passion and sorrows

2. How are the dwellings, have they smiled after us?
Their white gaps about pearls and coral

3. And are they, as they used to be, calling loudly
On the branches, the rustling of leaves and melodies

4. You have greeted Lebanon from a dawning mountain
And the clouds stroke it with downpour and affection

5. The gardens narrated, with gushing rivers
Witnesses overflowing around houris and lads

6. The streams of water circled around it serving
Like butlers circulating among boon companions

7. Two fires in it ignite from villages and passion
Among the pastures, from lion and gazelle

8. Protecting the eyelids of the deer, it brought it to life and saw
Its deer killing the living with glances

9. They shared the havoc, its people made it
In the hands of an unsheathed sword and the arms of horsemen

10. The creaking bows of its young women related
The spears of its horsemen, O what a disgraceful separation

11. I spent the night and morning with an affection continuing with me
In separating from me, my patience and tranquility left me

12. I have not forgotten, I have not forgotten the days I spent
Living them among loved ones and parting

13. They have passed and left remaining in the heart
Sparks spreading fragrance between the encampments

14. By God, O sun of the moons, is there news
About the dweller of the west that comforts a withering heart

15. A branch from acacia rising above it a moon
A Lebanese deer, not a deer of the flatlands

16. By God's covenant, that smooth cheeked one has
A covenant lasting with union and separation

17. The evidence is still accompanying her
Her cheek and the Indian swords are similar

18. With my life I ransom a full moon on its coast
Fluttering as the one I love makes me flutter

19. Kohl in the eyelid out of magic and houris
Rose cheeks embroidered with roses and basil

20. The pillow intoxicated from the wine of his saliva
So it flirted with us with havoc and allurement

21. O name, do not worry if time distances me
From you, for longing brings me closer

22. Your time, O Asma, watered a beloved life
For it was in my eyes the best of times

23. An era we were happy in, as Umm Al-Ala was happy
With a prince peerless and matchless

24. What an excellent trustee, of great merit, and one who
Expresses goodness and favor through his essence

25. My Master, his glories the meteors relate
As they related the lineage of the Aadnan family

26. Full moon of sailing, no, breast of eloquence, no
Sea of generosity, no, a piercing horseman

27. Refined, none corrupted him but the generosity of a hand
That bestows clouds of generosity with clouds

28. He strings pearls in a necklace and sends it
As poetry wandering in well-composed verse

29. And if he unsheathes a sharp sword in a battle day
He splits the crowd of horse and rider

30. By God, since his separation no intimacy pleases me
Nor pleases me audacity in the councils

31. My heart is a lover's hostage with you
And you know my secrets and my expressions

32. You have honored me with a letter lasting as its sender
Healing the heart and enlivening me, so he gave me life

33. Its words are pearls set upon pearls
Of meanings, making me forget the clouds

34. Between refined poetry that furtively steals
The essence of rhetoric, and magic eloquence of prose

35. Take it to him, O Prince of Glory, a delicate
Young girl smiling with pearls of the gum resin tree

36. And capture her bashful and shy, so for that
Her eyelids were veiled, her cheek reddened

37. So stretch out to her a forgiving hand that carries her
O son of the preacher, the sea sufficed him

38. The bold ally of glory in his ambition
And war of time and peace of fate are equal

39. A dear soul, generous, unchanged
By the blows of fate or change of homelands

40. As if he is the full moon, his bright aspects do not hide
And the full moon rises from a bow or quiver

41. He has no need of office so he can rule by it
But ruled by nature, by favor and knowledge

42. So excellent a prince, pure his elevation
We will solicit him among lords and servants

43. May God perpetuate him, and the generations, as long as
A leaf rustles singing on a branch and twigs

44. Shining like the full moon of their glory, may they never
Cease to be shaded by the eyelid of happy fortune

45. And may their glory never cease to be pelted
With abundant honour without any decrease
