1. The bubbles circled the wineglass,
Casting a spell to enliven the gathering,

2. Golden, bestowing exquisite pleasures upon souls,
Illuminating the gloom of sorrows with its radiance.

3. My passion was stirred when I saw its brilliance
In the glass, relating the glow of embers.

4. So I entered a garden, welcomed by a loved one
Who captivates with a fawn-like grace.

5. With a face like the full moon beaming
Beneath his crown, as a torch.

6. He shot arrows from the bow of his eyebrows
From the skill of a languid, sleepy glance.

7. His glances unsheathed their swords,
Whispering in the hearts of people.

8. On his cheek, the fresh rose protected
A beauty spot hiding in gardens of delight.

9. I began to give him the wine’s pure nectar,
Playing with the wine-bearer’s bent elbow.

10. He let fall pearls and drops of dew
From a signet ring of sweet-smelling breath.

11. I drew near to kiss his lips
And embrace a curving waist to my delight.

12. But the watchman approached suddenly, so I left
What I hoped for, indeed, left my senses,

13. And my beloved was roused to action when
He arrived to show loyalty to the gathering.

14. Yet I saw, when the watchman came, cruelty
Stirring in my heart from his harsh aloofness,

15. And he ruined our assembly while we felt
Afflicted by that sneering fool.
