She lined her eyes with magic and coquetry,

1. She lined her eyes with magic and coquetry,
Names, to captivate souls,

2. And shot from the bow of her eyebrows,
Arrows that struck every ardent lover.

3. The brightness of her face sings,
In the darkness of the branch, without a lamp.

4. I swear by the dawns of her rising,
And the beautiful smile of her radiant cheek,

5. And by the separation that appeared
Like dawn in enclosed night,

6. By her and the intensity of her turning away
And the beauty of her double soft cheek,

7. And by the sweetness of her mouth’s darkness
Like honey mixed with pure wine,

8. And by the softness of her slender upright figure
That leaned to the side like a bough,

9. The heart continues ardent for her,
And without her love it would not stir,

10. The wind longed in hopes it would come
From the place her tent was pitched on the meadow,

11. My heart has not flown with passion
Except to her dwellings on the hillside,

12. So it watered the landmarks of her features
And her plains glowing with flowers,

13. She possessed the soul of the ardent lover
As the High One possessed Ibn Abi al-Faraj,

14. Al-Qasim, Lord of Virtue, he who overflowed
His palms like floods,

15. To God his qualities which
Are my love poems and by which I am inspired,

16. A hero who gained from the High One
The highest rank by his praises,

The clouds of fertile rain when it comes,

18. A lion, if he advanced with his procession
The enemies spent the night fearful and watchful,

19. Or if he was called to war, his sharp sword
Did whatever you wished without hindrance,

20. And the horizons of his ambition emerged
With wisdom shining like lightning,

21. My Lord has come to full excellence
With proofs most abundant,

22. A master to his father Al-Fadl he inclined
And to other than his father he did not incline,

23. And the High One submitted to obeying him
And without his approval did not incline,

24. A lion, whoever was under his command
Feared no hardship from fate,

Of sublime praise at its utmost,

29. Take it with pardon for my stumbling,
As it comes hesitantly with trembling,

30. I send you prayers with love poems
And praise woven with your attributes,

31. And with the beauty of glorifying you I lined them
With magic and coquetry.
