My eyelids found no comfort or joy

The dawn, hoping it would dispel the gloom

3. My eyes are drowsy from the smoke
Billowing like a flood from our roof and flowing

4. The flood prevents sweet sleep
When it settles heavily above and pours down

5. Likewise the smokestacks when active
Blind our neighborhood, heart, and sight

6. Their timbers creak and groan
Warning of ruin and harm

7. Above us, the bowed timbers are trembling
How to sleep when the roof, look at it!

8. Our doors stand open, so maybe
The smoke can escape and we regain our sight

9. The smoke of Sodom from our neighbors and
The flood on our roof continuously dripping

10. A clamor arose in Babylon, appearing
From the gift that startled my thoughts

11. This has been our state since sunset until
Dawn, enduring fierce wind and rain

12. But from the glow of the prince's light we
Healed our hearts and did not despair at the past

13. And when his mercy kissed our mouths at dawn
Sorrow departed and joy flowed
