1. The treachery of Ibn Jarmuz towards a valiant knight
On the day of battle, though he was not prepared

2. O Amr, had you cautioned him, you would have found him
Neither confused, nor trembling of hand

3. How many deep waters has he traversed and not been deterred
By your pursuit, O Ibn Fuqai'a al-Qurashi

4. So go, your hands will never capture one like him
Among those who have passed, those who ride off and raid

5. Indeed Az-Zubayr is truly steadfast in trial
Good-natured, noble in bearing

6. Your mother has miscarried you in killing a Muslim
The punishment of intentional killing is obligatory upon you
