1. I say to one who frequents generosity though not wealthy:
Enough that this person gave some of his possessions.

2. A young man who spent his money freely on every side,
And lavished it during his journeys and sojourns.

3. So if his wealth failed him, he would give his palms,
Dividing with those who sought from him half his life.

4. And if he found in life no share of wealth,
And giving was permitted to him from his good deeds,

5. He would give it without ingratitude toward his Lord,
Sharing with them in his fasting and his prayers.
