1. The people of the abode between Ar-Rusaafa and Al-Jisr
Prolonged my torment with their long estrangement

2. They tortured me with their absence and tested my heart
With two agonizing sorrows and heartache

3. Whenever the north wind blows, I sigh
And my heart says to my eyes, "Let your tears flow"

4. My patience for them diminished, yet they did not pity me
So I wandered confused like a lost fledgling

5. The days tasked me with myself, so I grew weary
And my efforts came to an end
