1. When will the journey of parting end,
This farewell - who can bear to bid adieu?

2. Two lovers whom passion has led far astray,
Neither dissuaded nor with anyone to dissuade.

3. They stopped at a place filled with sorrow - had
The turns of time witnessed it, they would sorrow too.

4. They make excuses to linger a little while,
Hearing Nature and the elements sound their notes anew.

5. When they unlocked their embrace in the cover of night
And the traveling party set out once more,

6. They tore a heart that still clung to grief -
If only they hadn't removed it so raw!

7. Since they left I've wept my sorrows to no avail,
Like one with fever finding no cure.

8. What is this caravan that follows in their trail,
Traversing the sands, never deviating its course?

9. They left within my noble heart such love -
A gift of their generosity that will never be lost.

10. Alas! The tempted will never attain their quest,
Nor will the tempted heed the dissent.

11. I promised that garden, adorned with beauty,
And that fair sky with its jeweled tent -

12. The sleepless birds in the thickets, why do they still
Keep up their laments when the party has went?

13. These eyes wept copious tears at their departing,
While theirs are dry - they can spare no more.

14. By God! if propriety didn't restrain me,
And people say one obsessed with ruin and gore,

15. I would have flung myself into the abyss,
Seeking where I might find rest evermore.

16. Today the hand of parting severs every tie,
With resolved intent that cannot be overthrew.
