1. I abandoned the earth and sought the heavens,
It is no wonder, the way of the exalted is sublime.

2. If people inherit you in their sorrow,
I will prolong my elegy for Egypt.

3. Many a brilliant mind wept for you,
Egypt has grown accustomed to weeping.

4. She used to fear your demise,
Now no longer fearing your passing.

5. For you live on with virtuous praise,
As you lived with fine acclaim.

6. Yet in the hearts of the noble,
Are pangs that resist all healing.

7. They lost, with you, the beauty of youth,
And lost, with you, the sincerity of brotherhood.

8. They fulfilled, for you, with affection after intent,
Such is the reward of the loyal, loyalty.

9. The acquainted have no consolation from you,
Nor solace without you.

10. She called you for a time, burdened,
Then stumbled, and that hope has faded.

11. She continues calling you in her grief,
Yet alas! you answer no call.

12. There is reunion, but not for past companions,
Parting, but far from remeeting.

13. You transcended a kingdom of brief duration,
And aspired to a kingdom of lasting duration.

14. May God grant you the best therein
As your loving devotees pray.
