1. A heart engrossed in remembrance,
An eye brimming with tears,

2. A soul still in its youth,
A body touched by old age,

3. Forsaken hopes,
A time wholly wasted,

4. A life made bitter by sorrows,
A pure life tainted.

5. O night that ushers the dawn
For those kept awake in waiting,

6. While people slumber,
My eyelids are robbed of sleep.

7. When your wall takes its leave
My eye welcomes a wall.

8. It destroys me, so destroys me,
I fold it, so it unfolds.

9. Alone in you, guarded,
My guard almost betrays me.

10. No scripts bind it
If vigilance wearies me.

11. No prose or verse,
Though they have prosed and versed.

12. My life imprisoned,
While others after prison were blest.

13. I see swords envelop me
As if I brandished a sword.

14. Rusted with them, I reckon
My life will rust away.

15. Will destiny abandon me
And support our adversary?

16. Oh how I grieve for a flock
Left to the wolf’s custody.

17. Tomorrow in barren land,
Its plants and trees all withered.

18. Its shepherd passed away ages ago,
The flock lost after he left.

19. They tell me patience, loved ones,
But how can one be patient in fire?

20. The wicked have succeeded,
While the righteous are losers.

21. Before us lies a nation
We see dying today.

22. Who laments is excused,
But few have excused themselves.

23. O horizon, kindle with sorrow!
Weep, o rain, with tears!

24. Why blame enemies
For the evil they wrought?

25. They were nurtured as snakes from the start,
Forget them now they are old!

26. We advised them but they would not heed,
We warned them but they were undeterred.

27. Their hearts have hardened,
Like solid rock their hearts.

28. When they plot mischief,
Then we will plot too.

29. Whom shall we fear, when fate
Is supreme, no matter what mortals conspire?

30. Time has plenty to spare,
Destiny has much in store.

31. In events lies a moral -
If only people would learn!

32. This bejeweled crown
Will lie ruined tomorrow.

33. The palace razed to the ground.
Slowly, empires rise and fall,

34. One after another.
Truth may suffer defeat

35. For a while, then prevails.
