1. I care not for what makes the eyes of the weepers cry
If what makes them weep is other than longing for you

2. O Egypt, I shall never forget you though time be long
And the people forget what goodness dwells in you

3. Twelve years have passed by the will of God
I've endured them, my love for you still strong

4. I long for my brothers there, though truly
It's longing for your purity that makes me long

5. I had fond memories of your land
Not of the Nile's ignorance, or your pyramids

6. My youthful days let me speak, and hear you
I became your bird when I came to see you

7. And if God decrees we shall meet again after this
Do not wipe my face with any of your soil

8. Time taught me patience, it cannot humiliate me
Though it has tried to humble me through your absence

9. And if I live on despite your distance
I live only for the hope of seeing you again

10. I see great calamities as small
And see my demise - yet I do not fear my demise

11. The slackening of my peers only strengthened
My resolve - so struggle on, my time of strife

12. My wounds increased, and so did my fervor
Another complained to me, so I raved, the suffering complainant

13. If those who bound me had one day tried
To free me, I'd not have wanted freedom from them

14. Time has amazed you and pained me
You laughed while I, alone, cried

15. After me, become preoccupied with novel wishes
Oh, would that I could make you long as you made me long

16. The poets have innovated about you beautifully
Had I been present I'd have stopped their excess

17. There comes to you from me something that renews your thoughts
Poetry that could almost make your love tremble

18. I plucked it from the garden of my vibrant youth
This is my crime, so how did it wound you?

19. If this voice sang with vitality
Then for long it sang your praises in its youth

20. Or it has now become quiet, just as
The slumbering grove stirs and hushes

21. O throne of the sun's progeny in their loftiness
Planets orbiting high, interwoven

22. Is there in the wild a spring like your Nile
Or one in the wild who nurtured like you nurtured?

23. You who, since your temple caretakers,
Have sheltered the hearts of the brave and the avenger's argument

24. And inherited your mother Isis' vindication
When she avenged your father Osiris

25. People are all called to love you
They disputed you, and disputed your lovers

26. Your countryside has become a paradise for its kings
Your sky has become a paradise for angels

27. By God, I cannot match you in the land
Let them seek this in the cosmos
