1. O nights, what do we see, O nights
Is it the best state I have shown, or the worst state?

2. Thus the loyal become slaves
Thus the slaves rule the loyal

3. No safety, so we end with wishes
No attainment, so we satisfy ourselves with gifts

4. A wisdom my Lord has willed in us
So we obeyed, and good is in obeying

5. Indeed this last generation is a generation
That came in disgrace of all generations
