1. Beauty rises in her, and rises though humbled.
The lovers have been abased, my Lord, by what they did.

2. I strive to please her, but striving angers her.
So estrangement is my law, in both cases, a law for me.

3. With tears I must fulfill love's duty to her.
Alas, if my eyes were a well, they would not suffice.

4. O you who struggle with me, my inner self will not be wrested away!
For God's sake, return! My intimate ones have been torn away.

5. Do not humiliate one dear to the family of Ya-Kan!
His forefathers subdued the world but were not subdued.

6. For you all, weeping for love of you does not cease.
Weeping for passion never ceases.

7. I remain reciting my darkness to the heavenly spheres,
While fate weeps for it, and God listens.

8. I have invented meanings in your perfections.
Thus, before me, have lovers invented.

9. So I was not silent in frustration like those who were silent,
Nor did I seek mere rhyme like those who sought rhyme.

10. And this is one remnant of thought I still pursue,
Crying out, which my intuition pursues.

11. I have never ceased following my heart to please you,
Until it was exhausted, undone by longing.

12. Thus a heart cries out in sorrow, split open.
Hearts crack open from prolonging despair.
