1. If reproach would bring relief, reproach the lover,
But this lightning is surely deceiving.

2. Your hearts pined as his heart pined,
And yesterday you sought what today you blame him for.

3. Think him not a loser, he's no loser,
Your trials have passed while his are ongoing,

4. He has his like in intimacy and estrangement,
He is pleased some days and angered on others,

5. With what eye or for what slip,
Shall we watch over his love and take him to account?

6. Know that it's an arrow that has struck his heart,
And every heart, that arrow strikes its mark.

7. I remembered the blossoms of youth now gone,
Saddened that their sweetness shall not return.

8. Many a night I talked with him till dawn,
He asked about his love and I made answer.

9. I heard the leaves rustle their morning song,
And said "Listen to the birds conversing with him."

10. In those leaves are hearts filled with passion beneath,
If a breeze stirs, it kindles raging flames.

11. I see despair is nearer cure than hope,
When the sought are proud, questioners despair.

12. And how many sorrows nestle in breasts,
Frightened by blame though their cause is pure.
