1. Abu Malik's tribe is neither feeble nor weak in might,
None can contend with them if he forbids,

2. Nay, but they are gentle and tender
As the tall spear's smooth easily-bending point.

3. Yet they are not disregardful of duty,
Generous natures, of sweet speech,

4. If ye court them, pliant to your pleas,
Commit to them tasks, and these shall suffice.

5. Ho! Who calls Abu Malik!
Is our affair his or another's?

6. Abu Malik, penury ties down his liberal soul,
He treasures enough for himself and squanders the rest.
