1. O you whose heart is laden with heavy concerns,
Has become, remembering Rayya, mother of Harun,

2. Has come to remember her after she went far away
While time is sometimes harsh and sometimes gentle,

3. If love for her has become difficult for us now,
And the confidant does not come to me anymore,

4. We were rich and the house brought us together,
Obey Rayya and Rayya do not disobey me,

5. We spurn slanderers, so we do not miss striking them,
With sincere affection stored from pure intimacy,

6. And I have a cousin, whatever his manners were,
We differ, so treat him gently and he treats me harshly,

7. It grieves me that our ostriches have turned away,
So he has left me for him, rather he left him for me,

8. If the days blow you misfortune,
I did not weep over you, neither for worldly life nor for religion,

9. O cousin, you are not nobler in lineage than I,
Nor are you my judge to despise me,

10. Do not strengthen my family on a day of poverty,
Nor with yourself alone suffice to shroud me,

11. If you wish to restore the honor of the world that scorned me,
That is not what grieves me,

12. Do not see in anything but patience a deficiency,
And what is other than it, God suffices me,

13. Were it not for the ties of kinship that you do not preserve,
And fear of God in the Master who opposes me,

14. When I have absolved you, with no compulsion,
I saw you do not cease to absolve me,

15. He who unfolds and folds the world,
If He has enriched you without me, He will enrich me,

16. God knows you and God knows me,
And God will reward you for me and reward me,

17. What is upon me if you are my kin
That I do not love you if you do not love me?

18. If you drink my blood, your drinker is not sated,
And your blood together does not quench me,

19. And I have a cousin, if people were in my liver,
He would remain confined by arrows striking me,

20. O Amr, will you not leave insulting me and belittling me?
I will strike you until the brain says “Give me drink!”

21. My judgment is not that of a simple shepherd woman
Who herds the birthings, nor is my view deluded.

22. I am clearly, clearly one who guards propriety
And son of one clearly, clearly of two clearnesses,

23. Chaste, fleeing if I fear a land,
Gentle there, for I do not stand firm in gentleness,

24. Every person ends up one day with his repute,

25. By your life, my door is not closed
To a friend, nor is my goodness concealed,

26. Nor does my tongue attack the lowly
With wickedness, nor is my valiance concealed,

29. By God, if my hand dislikes my companionship,
I say, when I remember my kinship to it, between us,

31. And you hundred from the tribe of Zayd,
Gather your affairs, diverse, and plot against me,

32. If you know the path of righteousness, set out,
And if you miss the path of righteousness, come to me!

33. O Lord, a robe whose borders are like its middle,
No fault in the robe, of beauty or of softness,

34. One day I was harsh to a spindly, towering woman,
One day of time the platters kept passing me,

35. What is upon me if you call me in panic,
That I do not answer you if you do not answer me?

36. I used to give you my money and bestow upon you
My affection, constant in the breast, concealed,

37. O Lord, a harshly clamorous, lion-like man came,
I was frightened of whoever believed in him and his pledge,

38. I repelled their falsehood into the head of its speaker,
So they remain defeated, with fleeting lives,

39. O Umar, had you known me, you would have found me gentle,
Lenient, noble, rewarding those who reward me,

40. And I have wondered—and there is no wonder in time—
One hand that inspires, while another from you oppresses me,
