1. My love for you led my heart to find peace,
And my cup was filled by the most beautiful of faces.

2. I deceived my friends into thinking
That I was drunk from their drinks,

3. When in truth my secret rapture was from your glance,
And your cheekbones made me forget my cup.

4. In my drunkenness, my gratitude emerged
For the youths through whom my secret passion and renown were made complete.

5. When I sobered up, I sought her affection
Without fear of her aloofness exposing me.

6. I confided in her my innermost thoughts
With no watcher to guard the intimacy of my fervor.

7. I said to her, while the wine-bearer was present, witnessing,
And my love for her evident, though loss makes it more profound:

8. Bestow upon me a glimpse of your radiance before love destroys all that remains in me.
Regard me with the glance of she who turns back.

9. And allow my hearing your voice if you refuse
To let me see you, though it would please another.

10. For without you my drunkenness has no lack,
Were it not for love, my liver would not have shattered.

11. Had I possessed mountains, and Mount Sinai itself been under my authority,
I would have crumbled them to pieces before your unveiling.

12. Love sheds tears that grow branches of intimacy,
And kindles flames whose only cure is my annihilation.

13. So Noah's flood is to me as my tears,
And Abraham's burnt offering pyre is my agony.

14. Were it not for my sighs, my tears would have drowned me,
And were it not for my tears, my sighs would have incinerated me.

15. My grief is but a fraction of Jacob's sorrow,
And each of Job's afflictions merely a part of my ordeal.

16. The last of calamities that the foremost lovers tasted
Is but a taste of my first tribulation.

17. If the ear of one lost heard my groans
From the sickness racking my body,

18. It would remind him of the torment of a life
Cut off from traveling companions when night falls.

19. Utter misery has torn me apart
And chronic melancholy has exposed my essential reality,

20. So that even in my drunkenness, my gauntness betrayed me to my watcher,
Divulging all my secrets and the details of my life's chronicle.

21. I thus appeared to him devoid of attributes, in a state
That no eye has glimpsed from the fervor of love,

22. And so illness unveiled what had long been hidden from him,
Since love always brings the bizarre.

23. A harm made evident what garb had kept concealed,
As my withered body sighed its dying breath.

24. Had misfortune resolved to take me, it would not have known
My whereabouts, so well did the hiding of my love for you protect me.

25. What came over me was but an infusion of desire and passion,
Announcing the truth of my situation better than my own expressions could have.

26. So tell whoever dwells among the living about my outward state -
The insight of my inward reality has surpassed even my closest confidantes!

27. As if the Noble Recorders themselves
Had descended, inspiring his heart with all I inscribed in my innermost thoughts,

28. Things I murmured and stored covertly in my bosom -
He came to know without having to gaze upon the vision itself.

29. He thus informed about my concealed world
What no eye has glimpsed save his, without any doubt.

30. It was as if he could see right through me, perceiving
The inner whispers of my soul that I strove to hide.

31. While my mind was arrested by his hearing,
Unable to behold the sight itself, yet comprehending all.

32. He exposed what I manifested outwardly
As the very essence of my predicament, which I kept private.

33. I did not have to speak a word, and yet he voiced
The secret longings of my soul that were beyond his auspultation.

34. His ear became for my thoughts an eternal abode
In which they circled without need of eyesight.

35. So he told those living all he discerned of me openly,
Including the crux of my affair - though he is part of my inner circle!

36. It was as if the Noble Angels had conveyed to him
As divine inspiration everything contained in my records.

37. He knew not what I harbored, nor what I withheld
Covertly of private matters behind my sealed tablets.

38. The veil of physicality was lifted to reveal what I'd hidden,
Unknown to him before as my intimate concerns.

39. I had concealed even myself, debilitated in body
So that my feebleness cloaked the secret of my admiration,

40. Until illness exposed what I kept hidden,
And love brings all matters bizarre into light.

41. Had ruin resolved to seize me, it would not have uncovered
My feelings' dwelling place, so excellent was your love’s safekeeping of me.

42. Between bouts of longing and craving I withered away in
Isolation, ostracized from the sanctuary of your presence.

43. Had my heart been restored to life by the slightest enjoyment of
Your company, it would not have yearned for any exile.

44. The essence of my tale which I reveal in part
Lies beyond the scope of my capacity to fully disclose.

45. I restrain discussing countless matters
That cannot be quantified even were I to attempt to articulate them all.

46. My cure is the cure - it has concluded all;
Quenching the thirst of my flaming passions alone can soothe me.

47. The most ragged of garments bring me bliss
When, in destitution, I don the essence-annihilating rapture.

48. Had my visitors truly uncovered my condition and perceived
What vigor the wine-pourer has left intact in me,

49. They would not glimpse a mere trace of life
In a frame interred in withered bones.

50. The torment of my devotion to her is a blessing I have earned,
While tribulations from her are but the most resplendent adornment.

51. Indeed, the afflictions of love taste sweeter than well-being
To the souls of those whose undying passion she has requited.

52. So thank her when her cruelties befall you,
In place of voicing qualms - such is love's distinguished company.

53. Respond to her disapproval with gratitude, and return
Kindness for her harshness, as righteousness demands of true devotion.

54. Though I endure, I make no complaint to rivals -
My resilience rewards me through her alone.

55. Outwardly appearing forgiving while hiding inner resentment
From a beloved is shameful, though strangers deem it gallant.

56. What stops me from confiding her troubles is but
The decorum of persevering with poise through adversity.

57. Reward soon comes to those who bear hardships patiently,
So do not despair; respite will dawn after every dark night.

58. You may turn to me for aid if afflicted by that
Which you cannot endure. I shall comfort you during misfortune’s plight.

59. My spirit remains devoted even if my body perishes.
Gladly will I sacrifice it upon love’s exalted altar!

60. So put to death whatever impedes our union -
False aspirations that but delay your ascent.

61. Sever such hopes and you will discover prosperity ;
The nadir a lover attains is naught once passion’s realized.

62. Abandon all but thoughts of me; nullify
Your sense of self, egoism cannot be justified.

63. Reflect upon my warnings and make reason judge them;
Let go of blind prejudice that breeds animosity.

64. Be judicious and observe yourself impartially
Through your actions, not vain ideas or beliefs.

65. Look inward with insight to see what you perceive
Behind deceptive veils when staring into mirrors.

66. Is it I who appears or you who beholds the reflection?
Beware the clearest of images, lest they further confusion.

67. Hear in echoes of your voice but reverberations
Of your tone returning within splendid structures.

68. Does whispering your name not prove that if unaware
Of my presence, still you could never be alone?

69. If knowledge descends suddenly inspiring you,
From whence does realization come if not from me?

70. You knew naught of bygone ages or the future
Before this day which gifted you such foresight.

71. You possess now facts of past beings and occult
Mysteries of those yet to arrive with insight.

72. Where else could such erudition have originated
If not from my overflowing font of wisdom?

73. These truths were inscribed within and later emerged
By grace transmitted since earliest revelation.

74. So do not reject any form or impossible
State manifesting in this expansive universe!

75. Fancies and absurdities both resemble veils
Covering Truth's scintillating countenance.

76. You see depicted vividly before you scenes
That seem as dreams unfolding while you slumber.

77. Opposites accord to form each singular marvel ;
The world's disparate facets reflect Beauty's oneness.

78. Beings frozen silently speak louder than words,
While inanimate objects can move and emit light!

79. Witness laughter from intense awe and tears cascading
In pain - emotions locked in perpetual embrace.

80. Hear elegies sung in Place of jubilant praises
When solace turns sorrows into life’s sweetest pleasures.

81. Spectate birds flocking to trees, trilling notes
In harmony transcending mundane cacophony.

82. Strong men race on land; large vessels cruise
Through oceans - all containing my spirit.

83. Some wield blades to kill, while others ignite
Fires or floods to destroy nations for power's sake.

84. One emerges heroic beyond norms while
Another retreats, humiliation's countenance displayed.

85. Gaze in amazement at massive stones flying,
Toppling fortified towers that kept armies at bay.

86. Emaciated forms may materialize
Revealing to the astute eye marvellous truths.

87. A net in water catches fish for consumption;
Baited traps capture fowl to satisfy hunger.

88. Ships wrecked enable coasts to gather spoils
As jungle predators rejoice over prey.

89. Airborne predators hunt their kindred species,
While land beasts stalk those roaming upon grasslands.

90. My capacity description defies the confines of verse;
So let what I have expounded suffice for now.

91. In singular instants worlds can evolve and expire,
Though time and space bind most within dimensions.

92. With but the subtlest caress of my divine breath,
The dead are revived without chance of disbelief.

93. One who enjoys my effulgent company can thereby
Walk on water, survive fire or master the firmament.

94. Conjoining earnest playfulness and wisdom in my way
Opens closed minds to love’s exalted position.

95. They see then that no distance severs the lover
From the beloved who dwells within his essence ever.

96. So abandon the dark prison in which you are jailed
And escape to enlightenment's open horizon!

97. There awaits you freedom from time and space
And communion with the Eternal in all His names.

98. Had I unveiled fully my effulgent majesty here,
All creation would perish, my being too much to endure

99. So understand this verse as allegory describing
Various states that conceal and reveal Reality.

100. Choice is now yours whether you live in unity
Or insist duality’s lenses define all you see.

101. With patience and commitment you will discover inner
Peace - Love’s nourishment makes arduous trials worthwhile.

102. Our journey concludes where it began, for yearning
Impels the erstwhile lord to serve again as loving slave.
