1. Mention the one I love, even if blamed
For the words of the beloved are my wine

2. So my hearing witnesses whom I love though distant
Through the specter of blame, not the specter of dreams

3. Her memory is sweet to me in every aspect
Even if they mix it for me with discord

4. As if my discord brings glad tidings of reunion
Though I do not hope for returned greetings

5. By my soul, the one whose soul I ruined with love
So my affliction preceded my day of affliction

6. And for her sake, my disgrace was pleasant and my
Humiliation was pleasing and my loftiness was low

7. Through her my devotion after my piety was violated
As was my chastity and my committing of sins

8. I pray and recite remembering her
And am ecstatic in the sanctuary and she is my imam

9. And if I enter ihram for hajj, I stay in her name
And through her I see abstinence as the fast of my fasts

10. I go with a heart infatuated and wandering
And walk with an eye tearful and anxious

11. And my state is an eloquent state and what transpired
Transpired, and my lamenting is eloquent in my dirges

12. So my heart and my eye are meaningful in her beauty
One infatuated, the other drawn by her soft figure

13. My sleep is lost and my morning is yours forever
My wakefulness found and my longing asleep

14. My covenant and oath are unbroken and unbreaking
My passion and love are total and complete

15. My body reveals from sorrow to become
Through her, bones conveying meaning

16. The fallen of the agony of love, the wounded of passions
The sleepless of eyelids, eternally eternal

17. The truthful of an infatuation which I followed gently
So the breaths of the breeze are my turban

18. A true invalid, so seek me among the youth
For through them lies my abode as the wasting willed

19. I concealed sorrow until I was hidden from sorrow
And from the cure of my ills and the warmth of my shelter

20. And none knows my place save love
And the hiding of my secrets and the keeping of my reins

21. And love left me nothing but sadness
And sorrow, lament, and the excess of my ills

22. As for my passion, my patience, and my consolation
None remains for me but their marks

23. So one sincere is saved through his soul
From his love, and O soul, go in peace

24. And when my critic in love blamed me for it
I said, then ask my blame about her

25. By whom am I guided in love if I intend consolation
And by me every imam is emulated in love

26. And in each limb I have all the youthfulness
For her, and longing pulling me by the reins

27. They bent, so we bent every supple one
The whip straightened but still followed by the full moon

28. And for me each limb contains every love for her
If the striking of an arrow sounds for each arrow

29. And if my body were outstretched, she would see every essence
Containing every heart in which lies every love

30. And in her union a year for me is each moment
While an hour of separation is to me like a year

31. And when we met by night and embraced
The paths to her abode and my tents were equal

32. And we were too shy before the living where no
Watcher or whisperer with false words

33. So I laid my cheek down for her as a carpet on the soil
And she said "glad tidings to you" with a kiss of her wrap

34. But my soul did not allow that out of jealousy
To protect her from me for the glory of my goal

35. And we remained as my suggestion desired, hoping for union
I see the kingdom as my kingdom and the time as my lad.
