1. O my weary soul wandering
Among the twisting paths and thickets

2. You come across no spring that flows generously
While its channels overflow with water

3. Spending the night and morning with no absence of its lover
A respite of worries or awakening from sins

4. The leader is granted it and sleeps happily
And remains humble when awake

5. Yet my passion has become a runaway
Enemy of my reason however much it runs away

6. Time was watered when harmony reached me
And willingly granted me without any coercion

7. And when old age is a well-tended youth
And advices are all gentle

8. No, by Him who if He wished could change my youth
To amusement and lengthen my prime

9. It’s not said that abstinence has virtue
Except for God’s servants practicing it

10. The king’s possession is his hidden and manifest realm
So his rule is supreme in speech and action

11. Sweet of tongue and never harsh
Angry of tongue and not impetuous

12. Not to mention the silence without disgrace in it
And enough of the improper tongue without nonsense

13. Ever wakeful to do a generous deed
And vying in thanking her for her gifts

14. The desirous are thanked so their manners
Are joyful and such is the state of amusement

15. Yet he is aloof from the garden of praise
However much he wanders in it

16. Shaded by his tallness with gardens
Familiarized by his limit with warnings

17. As if his love is a towering mountain
From which rocks crumble in their fall

18. His calm has authority over his matter
So it’s as if he is forgetting and not forgetful

19. He forgives and acts gently with his enemy
So it’s as if he is confused and not confusing

20. He whom truth sees as a source of fortune
And happiness of kingdom and grace of God

21. So when time frowns and passes grimly
His time smiles and glitters

22. The beauty of his deeds does not cease to cheer him
Before and sadden him from rivals

23. The generous Arabs and Persians exchange
His mention with musk and ambergris

24. Intercession of generosity reached him for their request
So he saw their need as great

25. Whomever you direct to him whether needy
Of drink or seeking help, he calls them

26. Healing worries and fending off any harms
From us with the wisdom of an intuitive decision maker

Tell the prince may the nights of his life

28. Pass without cease and infinity
O you who ruled the throats with his taste

29. And his rule was beautiful and pleasant to tongues and lips
So that he surpasses the greatest of princes

30. With a vizier the greatest of viziers
His servant has become such that he rivals

31. A master among kings how he vies!
Look for you are looking closely

32. Is there in your vizier one who rivals your vizier?
Did he make enemies submit when he stood

33. Except the humiliation of their noses and brows?
They prostrated and if they refused, the place of their prostration

34. He would have pelted them with his schemes
Indeed, when an observer contemplates the vizier

35. He sees the tools of a cautious planner and a splendid crown
Sleep however you wish for the building is not crumbling

36. No, the foundation of the building is not crumbling
Your hands have gotten from the vizier a valuable one

37. His advice comes without coercion
As for his appearance, it is imperial

38. And he has a hidden inner circle advising him
Support your hands with a servant whose nature

39. Is the opposite of ostentation if he pretends
The eyes of a group have slept to insight

40. While you remain awake without slumber
My friend, the vizier is high while

41. His bold attacks strike with yelps and commotion
A people upon the ways of conduct announcing

42. The outgoing and incoming funds
Ahmad protected the ministry from a people

43. Created to earn a living through coercion
When they distribute they distribute like the preaching

44. Of an admonisher, then they remain there aimless
A protector has protected him equivalent to his effort

45. And crowned him from the honor of deeds with diadems
The rewards of good have rewarded the one in charge

46. So right before every covetousness, he is salvation

47. Not like the son of discord and a partisan group
Who missed out on doing good except his passion

48. O questioner, about the son of filth while he took shelter
In the fire, burns there with its flames

49. The wretch was a wolf of the abases of time
And the men of his state were meaner wolves

50. Then he transgressed so now he is a foolish beast
And his ignorance adorned him with false splendor

51. He became audacious and foolish in speech quarrelling
Until we nicknamed him the father of nonsense

52. Obstinate, silent about his Lord
So time pelted him with stones and muzzles

53. Al-Muwaffaq disappeared so he doubted his absence
And he came upon him a bounding leap

54. The enemy of piety is exaggerating
For a caliphate and insolence of status

55. Al-Muwaffaq said, when his deception appeared
By God, you made a fool of yourself not joking

56. Abu Al-Abbas set out the next day seeking revenge
So time assaulted with its plots

57. The match of the tricky fighter and duelist is strong
He does not bend to rebuke and clamor

58. The prince rode off the battle with proof as his guide
While the rogue blundered aimlessly in his nonsense

59. Let no one be surprised by the defeat of his face
Was he ever a servant paired with fortune?

60. A face as if of the righteous but has no regard
For the righteous, so he exposes every weakness

61. Had he been warned with good counsel
And arguments, he would have heeded counsel

62. Refusal of good counsel, yet good counsel is free
So if you help it, it will not refuse

63. And a man came who does not follow the path of one lost
In safekeeping his blessing or meandering through it wander

64. A wanderer who awed faces with his good news
And his hands were not used to bullying

65. It honored him and was not averse
To the pleasant scent for one who dislikes smells

66. His intention adorned him which from its temptation
Flows honesty of devotedness and sincere hearts
