1. The hopeless ones came to me about you, but I did not blame
And I said, "A cloud has rained on me, then moved on."

2. God does not banish the cloud and its course,
Nor did a wind blow so that it might disperse.

3. It is the rain that waters one town after another
Of the land until it waters all the land together.

4. And it is not sent to give fairness to one pasture,
Satisfying it with water and wronging another pasture.

5. And it does no harm to me if what benefits me harms me.
And that is for my love that it harms and benefits together.

6. I was content with what you are content with, but if I wanted
Another besides it, I would not even sniff except with my nose cut off.

7. And there is no good for me in what I love if you frown on it.
For you are part of my heart like my soul in its place.

8. Yet you are the only one I see as having
No likeness but the shining sun at its rising.

9. You have the highest example over all people
Even if livers burst open with anger until they crack.

10. I submitted, but if you considered submission deceitful,
Then I would still be a deceiver and you would be deceived.

11. Yet you are the one who ignites every idea
That a heart of embers has devised.

12. And you are the one who governed affairs with wisdom
So I do not blame what you protected or wronged what you shepherded,

13. The intelligence of a young man not the experiences of an old one
Who sees the unseen from him screened not veiled.

14. But you are the deceived, pardoning and bestowing,
So you pardon clearly and bestow most generously.

15. And I do not despair of the use of your hands,
Even if ill-thinking lies and is vulgar.

16. So if you prevent me from your usefulness,
Then do not prevent me from speaking and you listening.

17. And do not forbid me to see you smiling
If my intestines almost hope to smile.

18. And you have been granted a long life, judging fairly,
While I still derive pleasure from your fairness.
