1. With the Unique he circled Al-‘Āmiriyya,
A mug filled with thunderous downpour.

2. When his zeal subsided somewhat,
It swerved from the path of righteousness.

3. As appeared on the Yemeni plateau
The traces of one whose work was sublime,

4. His outpourings flow like my tears
The morning the Mother of al-Walīd departed.

5. She bids farewell from afar with a gesture—
How excellent is the gesture from afar!

6. Would that the zephyrs of Najd blow on me,
And on him who spends his eve at the mountain pass.

7. Most dreadful, when I visit therefrom,
Are repulsions, and death in repulsion.

8. Did not God make me a torment
To subdue every unruly devil,

9. To subdue every demon and jinn
In every open desert and every desolate place?

10. I am the fire, fueled by mankind,
And ignited by gravel and iron.

11. When their hides are cooked well-done therein,
I restore them minus those hides.

12. It is said, “Are you full, and has
Every creature entered you?” She says, “No, is there any more?”

13. When they are thirsty, I give them acid to drink—
Woe unto the people from drinking acid!

14. So where did you flee, fleeing from my invective?
And where did you flee, fleeing from my ode?

15. Even if you fled into the vagina that birthed you from me,
The remnants of song would reach you.

16. I deafen your hearing while you are in it,
And prevent your eyes from shedding tears.

17. To you, offspring of the Miller, I hurl
Deaf stones, solid as the rock.

18. They crumble the bones of their wearer and corrode them,
Yet they themselves do not wear out, never ever.

19. When I say “the nights,” I make them senile,
They look hideous in old age.

20. She chatters the tale of your mother DHū l-Khizām
And her midst seems like that of a Jew.

21. Nights that have a constant lover
Who treats them like someone made to sit watch.

22. He suspects their attendants to have an afflatus
With a huge head and distended veins.

23. So how many a seed have you hurried
That did not make it to the clotted blood!

24. And how many a father have you not accounted for!
And how many a brother of yours lies dead!

25. She pranced when she was done, and it made her slip
With no hardship or terrible exertion.

26. How can it be too tight for the discarded fetus
When her vagina is a gaping chasm within chasms?

27. She threw it out like carrion, from the top of a mountain,
An act of paganism against the newborn babe.

28. So how many murders has she been duty bound for!
And how many legal penalties lie behind your mother’s back!

29. Did she not tell you why she birthed you blind?
She plunged into the fire from the highest mountain path.

30. You were blinded so she could make you a butt
For the slingshots of slave-girls to pelt.

31. How do you expect to be safe from deadly spears
That alternate their fierce stabs at you?

32. Do you claim your Lord’s action was unjust
Regarding the community of Ṣāliḥ and the people of Hūd?

33. Regarding your two poems that inform us
Of nothing but your disbelief and ingratitude?

34. I do not hope for the destruction of ‘Ād’s people,
Or those on whom the torment was unleashed at Thamūd.

35. So where is Muḥammad? Or where is Jesus?
Are they not, like them, beneath the soil?

36. I am shocked that you have dared
To question the judgement of God, Lord of the Glorious Throne.

37. Has He not almost allotted to you what allotment
Befell your sisters, the apes and pigs?

38. You have lost religion and world altogether—
Thus, the ill-omened are ever ill-fated!
