1. O glorious one who amazed the land
Spreading glory, surpassing all description

2. May you never lack success, o gatherer of righteousness
Proceeding on a journey, settling, and returning

3. You circled the House then refused to make Hajj
So you became a place of circumambulation for the destitute

4. You visited Baghdad like a rain cloud that poured down
Rain on the villages while visiting, hosting all

5. You withheld your hands from people like a cloudburst
And you never ceased to confront and defend

6. They transgressed against time after you
While they never hoped for redress

7. I said when I saw those seeking your help
As a custom to you, rather customs

8. May God help the master; the people swore
Allegiance to the poles of his wealth

9. By my life, you helped by fending off
Praise and a host of allies

10. And if you destroyed a reputation with your right hand
You would protect that reputation from destruction

11. And you called me, o son of kings, to your
Generosity, which you granted to excess

12. So protect me from seeing any difference
Between my suspicions and certainties in what I hoped for

13. Or from seeing glory settled from your
Giving of fruitful promises and breach thereof

14. And grant me, o you whose request I saw
As equitable in attaining and in chastity

15. Let not the regret of your help cause my soul
Distress, so I enjoy riches and contentment

16. And suffice me therewith a threat to defenders
Who preserved the basin of favor from being emptied

17. Encroaching upon a hoped-for, feared master
For when the hopeful anger him, they fear

18. It is not the emirate which you assume
Arbitrarily, so do not make it rashly

19. Rather it is the emirate of the generous over the
Free, so be just and act with equity

20. Leave not a group of fat ones who hoard
Fat, while others are left unfed

21. Give succession to the blessed ones from a people of fertility
Who pastured your lush meadow, congregating

22. And lead your thirsty ones from a people of meadows
Who drank clear wine from your hands

23. Or overlook all, for you were granted
When they gathered around you, surrounds

24. You are excellent as a host, and the people are your
Guests, so be generous with the blessings of hospitality

25. For it is forbidden you to unleash
Reproaches until you offer hospitality

26. And of tyranny and stubbornness from truth
And some rulings proceed crookedly

27. A poet who advanced praise and uttered it
And a son of silence who advances ancestry

28. Let no composer of a faulty line of verse for you
Flee from its pearls out of cowardice

29. Guard my praise and request from people
Whom I never ceased to avoid

30. They were made the focus of hope but they blocked
With their skulls, so they were made targets

31. A group who deny knowing virtue
And there refuses to admit anything but compulsion

32. So let a man who tomorrow has in his hands
A destined affliction and sound wealth advise you

33. Put your honor above wealth and know
That without spending it, it will not be cleared

34. No, I do not say that as a threat but
My words flowed and stopped

35. Verily, people of poetry are fickle
And you see them at times rude

36. And if they are angered, they see the lampoon of an eloquent one
Even if he tears away the shoulders

37. When you wish, they are a handful of honey and if you wish
Wasps whose stings penetrate the muscles

38. Let not what we heard of your generosity
In every gathering be mere clamor
