1. I do not weep for the loss of a friend
Who failed me with ingratitude

2. Rather, I complain of the corruption of affection
Whose streams have run dry

3. I thank the Creator, who, had He sustained me
Would not have left me dependent on any creature

4. I have become overly demanding of my friend
Seeking from him what he does not possess

5. These two troubles are enough for me
One of them causes intense agony

6. O Abu Sahl, who has made my due a wrong
Among the most disregarded rights

7. I seek refuge in God from estrangement
You blamed me and took away my camels after having milked them

8. Estrangement and indifference befell me
I was confounded by that indifference after daybreak

9. You changed on me and broke your promise
Save with insincere lightning

10. This misfortune I did not anticipate
In the well-trodden paths of familiar events

11. How often you contravened and contravened
Until fulfilling them became difficult

12. Do not believe the account of Ibn Kharkhosh
For you have no flaws, you of honest scales

13. The Shaykh claimed that your birthplace
Was betrayal, something unheard of before

14. A planet was born for you that makes you
Abhor all thousand knotted intrigues

15. And when you captivated hearts, you bore
No hatred, like one who is detested and distrusted
