1. Some people aspire to glory, but it shakes them,
While the pillars of glory do not shake Ibn Yahya.

2. A young man who sees his wealth as a disease to be rid of,
And does not see it as a protected part of himself.

3. He trembles for glory instinctively,
While the free man trembles involuntarily, not shaken.

4. He whose blamer does not awake the ages blaming him,
And there is no peer in an ignorant era with him quarrelling.

5. The way of blaming him is left open for his blamer,
And criticism of him is a serious, prohibited thing.

6. He meets the riffraff with welcome when they turn away
From others, whether pushed or pulled.

7. No newcomer among them complains of his frowning,
Nor a client, when he turns away, with twisted garment.

8. He exceeds in spending his wealth while glory is his companion,
So the dear one is violated, not protected.

9. He does not bargain over a branch if it has worms,
Far be it! That branch is not twisted.

10. Rather, in it there is a tent for good deeds that motivates him -
Let alone a motivator in a good deed already motivated.

11. He has stored from glory a treasure that no one
But he could store - not with hoarded wealth.

12. If a portion of the bounties of his ages among the people
Were divisible, nothing but the plentiful would be found from it.

13. What do you think of my allegiance, oh Abu Hassan?
For how many like me have you preceded, unparalleled?

14. If you appoint me, oh son of Yahya, as a close confidante,
Do not settle her in a jar not tightly sealed.

15. My sword is not sheathed if your hands request
My victory, nor is my spear left planted.

16. But victory is present from one whose blows are decisive
And whose sharp spearpoint is bared and polished.

17. Make them taste it - any who oppose you - without hesitation,
Whether killed from blows or made carrion.

18. Indeed, my religion is to die for you, or give me
Good news - tidings you gave were for the son of Jurmuz,

19. For I do not count them among what I have forbidden,
But like sacrificial animals, sheep and goats.

20. An ardent love I profess, not hiding the passion,
Pledged to it - people avoid its heat warily.

21. Take it, oh Abu Hassan, I remain always
Its pioneer, unique for thousands of New Years,

22. Until the days attain for you every shortened
Reach, too small for your grasp, out of your control.

23. In the shade of steady life without decline
And in the cloak of youth not tattered.

24. I have softened what harshness and affection you have extended,
So drink its beauty from the cup and goblet

25. Of coffee whose youthful sharpness I have softened,
Its harvest the era of Sapor and Firuz.

26. It has not become bitter at all, and its taste is not sour,
But it has a flavor mixed of two flavors.
